Iva Jewel Hurt, born October 25, 1930 in Henning, Tennessee to Augusta McKinney and Edward Stevenson. She grew up in Dyersburg, Tennessee and then moved to Nashville. When living in Nashville, Iva Jewel met David Lee Hurt who was on leave from the Marine Corps while stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. After leaving the military, David and Iva Jewel married in Franklin, Kentucky in 1948 and settled in Madison, Tennessee. They had four children: Cathy Ellen Maxwell (David), Ronald Lee (Veda), Joyce Ann Sudekum (Harry), and Michael Edward (Gaye). She has 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great-grand grandchildren. She impacted countless students while working at Davidson Academy for 35 years before retiring.
Iva Jewel loved traveling and seeing the country, visiting all but 5 states. She was always taking photographs or filming special times with family and friends. Iva Jewel has left a legacy of memories for her family. Iva Jewel loved the Lord and lived her life serving others. She experienced God’s blessing throughout her life and saw firsthand the goodness of God. “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised…” – Psalm 48:1
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with a one hour visitation being held prior to the service at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
