Mrs. Irene (Czajkoski) Bruchas age 92, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2020.
Mrs. Bruchas was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on October 15, 1927, the daughter of the late Vincent and Julia (Noroski) Czajkoski. She was a graduate of Munhall High School and resided in Munhall until her marriage to Edward Bruchas in 1952 after they met upon his return from the military. Ed and Irene started their family in Pennsylvania but the majority of their married life took place in Tennessee. Irene was a founding member and parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church where she lived a life devoted to her faith and in service to her family and community. She coordinated the Senior Volunteers in Schools for AARP for years and was recognized in 1992 for her AARP volunteer work.
Mrs. Bruchas was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt to a large family that loved her immensely for her kindness, gentleness and compassion. She left many recipes for her family but will be remembered most for her apple pie, Christmas cookies, beef and pork roasts, chicken soup and stuffed cabbage. Her children all remember the "care packages" that their mom sent to them during the college years. She always included their favorite foods and items to remind them of her love for them. Irene always loved her flowers and was known for her irises, yuccas, money plant and hydrangeas which most family members now grow from her bounty and in her honor.
While Irene held various jobs in Hendersonville, she was most recognized for her role as a wife for 67 years and for her support of her husband, Ed, in his position as Editor of the Real Estate Review. She was the Administrative Assistant and was his constant companion in the community and on their many travels together. They were a team that always looked their best and amazed others with their vitality well into their senior years.
To her family, Irene will be remembered for her devotion to her faith. They recall the many hours spent praying with her rosary and prayer books that were her constant companion at her favorite meditation spots. She was always in prayer for her friends and family and served as a role model for all of us.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Edward, Mrs. Bruchas was preceded in death by her five siblings. Survivors include; five children, Eric Bruchas (Susie), Darlene Oliver (Jeffrey), Mark Bruchas (Linda), Pamela Polk (Alan), and Janet Sutton (Robert); fourteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
