Herman Klockner

Herman R. Klockner of Hendersonville, TN passed away March 14, 2018 in Hendersonville, TN. Herman was born March 19, 1926 in Champaign, IL, son of the late Leo and Frances (Hanson) Klockner. Herman proudly served in the United States Air Force near the end of WWII, which ignited his lifelong passion for flying. He was member #78 of the Experimental Aircraft Association, an organization with nearly 90,000 members today. He owned 2 Cessna 170 aircrafts and maintained his own airstrip, known as Circle K. Herman graduated from the University of Illinois with his Bachelors in Engineering and went to have a very successful career of over 40 years with Universal Rundle. During his time there, among many other breakthroughs and accomplishments, he was the inventor of toilet that flushed with only 1.5gal of water, during a time where the average flush was using 6-9gal of water. In his spare time, Herman enjoyed traveling and backpacking all over the world. On September 11, 1948 Herman was united in marriage to his loving and faithful wife of over 69 years, Helen (Koehler) Klockner, who survives. Also surviving are his 2 children, Mark (Bonnie) Klockner and Jill Klockner; 4 grandchildren, Benjamin, Ryan & Kevin Klockner and Monique Klockner-Gotcher; 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven R. Klockner. Family will receive friends on Monday, March 19 from 10-11am at Hendersonville Funeral Home (353 E. Main St; Hendersonville, TN 37075) where a celebration of life will follow at 11am. A fellowship luncheon will immediately follow the service.
