Harvey Pride Hertenstein, age 89, of Madison, TN, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Lucille Hertenstein; and sister, Mary Nell Mangrum. Survivors include: his beloved wife of over 60 years, Ann Arrington Hertenstein; daughter, Pam Kinnebrew of Vicksburg, MS; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mark Weems of Woodstock, GA; grandsons, Jacob Weems and James Kinnebrew; granddaughters, Jessica and Jordan Weems; and brother, Everett Hertenstein , Jr. He is also survived by many other extended family.
He was born in Nashville, TN, on April 20, 1927. During high school, he achieved the Eagle Scout designation from the Boy Scouts of America. Harvey graduated early from Isaac Litton High School to join the Navy where he served from 1945 to 1947. He continued to serve in the Navy Reserve until 1958. Harvey graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from George Peabody College in 1950 and completed his Masters Degree in 1960.
Harvey married Ann Arrington on April 14, 1956 and moved to Madison, TN. He spent 41 years as an educator in Davidson County public and private schools, including 13 years as Principal at Madison High School and 3 years as Principal at Stratford High School. Harvey was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville, TN and enjoyed camping, hiking, boating, and gardening.
A Life Celebration Service for Harvey will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 3 pm with visitation preceding the service from 1 pm - 3 pm. Burial will take place following the service at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harvey's name can be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203 or at AliveHospice.org.
Pallbearers will be Greg Arrington, Chris Arrington, Tommy Arrington, Jr., Tim Arrington, Terry Arrington, Rick Arrington, Keith Arrington, and Jim Mangrum. Honorary Pallbearers include Mike Mangrum, Madison High School Faculty, the Followers Sunday School Class, Phillip Arrington, Joe and Joann Scruggs, and Brad Rumbley.
