Age 97 of Hendersonville, Tennessee was relieved of her earthly sufferings and went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2016.
Harriet will forever be remembered for her legacy of love, creativity, optimism, faith, and her ability to listen with utmost attention. Her grandchildren can recall "something about her personality which reminded them of Winnie the Pooh." She had a kind, gentle, and giving spirit which touched countless lives. Her tremendous legacy was nothing other than an outward manifestation of her intense love of the Lord.
Her faith was deeply rooted in her daily life and apparent to all she encountered. Harriet was a longtime member of Nashville First Church of the Nazarene, where she will be greatly missed by the entire congregation. It could easily be said that her priorities were in perfect order. Her love of Jesus was tangible in her final hours as she called out "choose Jesus" and "Holy Spirit" and "I'm ready."
Being a teacher, she had an insatiable appetite for learning, and she thoroughly enjoyed sharing her latest projects and adventures with others. She was an avid reader. Known for her creativity, Harriet expressed herself in a wide array of art forms; including, paper quilling, teabag folding, iris folding, Norwegian Rosemaling, Zentangle, lace painting, encaustic painting, and painting with oil, pastel, and water colors. Though this list of her art forms may seem definitive, there were several others in which she was equally gifted.
She loved family gatherings and going on picnics. At one point, her journal entries consisted of "where she'd been and what she had eaten!" She had some acquired tastes which were not necessarily shared by her family; in fact, she delighted in Norwegian Fish Balls and pungent goat cheese.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60-plus years, Herman Parrish; son, David Parrish; and son-in-law, Ken Taylor, Jr. Harriet is survived by her son, Milton "Ed" (Carolyn) Parrish; daughter, Karen Taylor; daughter-in-law, Judy Parrish; granddaughters, Susan (Chao) Ma, Kara (Johnny) Kindall, Leslie (Jim) Becker, Beverly (Ian) Wallbrech, and Carole (Dale) Baker; grandsons, Rev. John (Heather) Parrish, Brian (Laurie) Parrish, and Chris (Trisha) Taylor; seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters; Evelyn Foster Mason, and Frances Foster (Dr. Jim) Debnam. She also leaves behind her dear friends and fellow members at the National League of American Pen Women, the National Society of Decorative Painters, and the Gideons International Auxiliary.
