H. Edward Thompson, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at the age of 68. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Katherine (Jacobson) Thompson, brother, Freddie Thompson and sister, Joyce Bates.
Survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Virginia (Presley) Thompson, children; Willie M. (Kelly) Shiver, Morna (Teresita) Tirona, Stephen (Julie) Thompson, Erica Thompson and Jordan Thompson, grandchildren; Chyna Shiver, Bayley Shiver, Tyler Tirona, Jackson Hollyfield, Liberty Thompson, great-grandchild, Easton Curlin, brothers; Barry (Pam) Thompson and Kevin (Gayle) Thompson, sisters; Mary Katherine "Cookie" Roche, Janice Walker, Judy (Wayne) Flowers and Opal (Don) Miller. Ed is also survived by many other extended family and friends.
Ed was born March 13, 1948 in Grand Bay, AL, to Herman Medrick Thompson and Katherine Jacobson. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and worked as a switchman for the I.C.G. Railroad. He was a huge fan of Alabama football, enjoyed playing cards and was an exceptional pool player. He also enjoyed coffee at Waffle House and classic cars. Ed was a strong, caring and compassionate family man. His family described him as intelligent, generous and always made sure they were taken care of. He was a patriotic man who loved his country and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A Life Celebration for Edward will be held at Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3216 Long Hollow Pike in Hendersonville, TN, on Tuesday, September 6th at 11:00AM, Rev. Jeff DeWees officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM. Interment will be held following the service at Beech Cemetery with Military Honors.
