Gwendolyn Fong (Ng Choy) Hughes of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Hendersonville TriStar Hospital on August 23, 2017 at the age of 93, Born in the great State of Hawaii (Kapa'a, Kauai) to Fong Chong Sing and Esther KamLee Naumu. She joins her brothers Kee Chong, Kee Luke, Kee Fook, Kee Sau and is survived by her sister Cecelia (Lu Kiu).

Her Father was a small business owner operating a grocery store generously serving the Kapa'a community whether they could pay or not. All of her brothers and sisters would go on to a successful life working in the military (Navy. Army), local government and the private sector. Gwendolyn retired from the Department of Veteran Affairs with 48 years of Federal service credit. She began her Federal service career as an Executive Admin for an Admiral at Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. Pearl Harbor is where she met her future husband of 48 years, James Gaston Hughes. Together they raised three children, Russell, James (Mike) and David. God also blessed Gwendolyn with two grandchildren (Marisa Irene and Amanda Grace) and one great grandchild, Lincoln James. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews with a special place in her heart for her niece, Esther Fong Helgesen who always wrote to her Aunty and generously gave of her time.

Gwendolyn was a person of deep faith and love of the Lord and a long-term member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church (OLOL) located in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Especially proud of the Church's growth from attending Mass in a small classroom on Rockland Road to its current location She faithfully supported the Church and its teachings but more importantly she enjoyed serving the community delivering communion and meals to the sick and homebound as well as working with the Legion of Mary and the OLOL Woman's Club. She was always a woman of few words and believed that actions spoke louder than words encouraging her family to be community servants regardless of the situation. She believed in people and followed God's direction to LOVE unconditionally.

A private viewing with the Family is scheduled for Saturday August 26, 2017 at Hendersonville Memorial Gardens in Hendersonville, Tennessee. She will be buried beside her husband of 48 years (James Gaston) at the Nashville National Cemetery (Military) in Madison, Tennessee.
