Mr. George Austin Kemp, Sr. age 89, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017.
Mr. Kemp was born in Nashville, TN, on February 22, 1928, the son of the late Addison Kirk Kemp and Jettie Wilkerson Kemp. He graduated from East High School and attended the University of TN. Mr. Kemp was a member of Christ Church Cathedral Episcopal Church. When he was twenty-two years of age he joined Crescent Amusement as manager of the Skyway Drive-in. Mr. Kemp went to work for Odom Construction and later with Rice and Papuchis. He started and managed TN Swimming Company for eight years, but later worked and retired from Arnold Construction Company after thirty-nine years of service. Mr. Kemp enjoyed reading, politics, sports, music, farming, and was an avid TN football fan. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kemp was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Rice Kemp and siblings, Buella Stark, Ernest Kemp, Estelle Alley, Earl Kemp, and Margie Malone.
Survivors include a daughter, Patt (Johnny) Cooper; a son, George A. Kemp, Jr.; five grandchildren, Ashley (Shaun) Dailey, Chris Cooper, George A. Kemp, III (Jennifer), Alina Kemp, and Danil Kemp; and five great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017, at one o'clock, Hendersonville Funeral Home.
Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Saturday from noon until the funeral hour at Hendersonville Funeral Home.
