George Dungan Edwards, IV, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2016, with his family by his side. Born on June 27, 1937 to George D. Edwards III and Dorothy Stewart Edwards, George grew up on the family farm in Feasterville, Pennsylvania.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors and lovingly teasing his little sisters, Elva and Dottie. As he grew up, he developed several life-long interests: football, fishing, and playing steel guitar. At the age of 12, he started playing steel guitar and as an adult had the chance to live his dream as a professional musician. In his early career, he played in house bands in New Jersey and New York and backed up such country legends as Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Porter Waggoner, George Jones, Wanda Jackson, Patsy Cline, and Willie Nelson. His talent led him to opportunities to travel with Faron Young, Hank Williams, Jr., and with Kitty Wells for 25 years. Not limited to live performances, he had the good fortune to record with the Manhattan Transfer, Rosemary Clooney, Vic Damone, Fabian, and Frankie Avalon. He shared his knowledge by teaching several students and was always happy to sit and talk with other steel guitar players and share stories. But, as much as he loved playing music, his true love was his family. He met the love of his life, Sallie, when she dated one of his friends. Being a smart man, he asked her out as soon as she broke up with his friend and a year later they were married. In the 58 years they were married, they raised three children and were blessed with seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who brought him joy: his face would light up whenever Tanner, Kailyn, or Cooper were in his sight. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Edwards, and he will be greatly missed by his wife, Sallie; his children Sherie Edwards (Jeff Dill), Lori Edwards Smith (Mike), George Edwards, V (Amy), seven grandchildren (Andrew Gooch, Sarah Gooch, Victoria Cundiff (Matt), Rachel Reese (Doc), and Blake, Brooke, and Braden Edwards), three great-grandchildren, his sisters Elva Edwards and Dottie (Tony) Thompson, and many cousins.

Visitation will be held on January 3 from 11-1 at Hendersonville Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 1. Pallbearers are grandsons and sons-in-law. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Opry Trust Fund, One Gaylord Drive, Nashville, Tennessee 37214.
