Gene Raymond Gaskins, age 81, passed away on November 23, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on July 11/ 1935 in Campbell, Missouri, where he grew up. He is preceded in death by his parents, Erma and Omer Gaskins, a son, Grant Matthew Gaskins, and a brother, Dr. James Gaskins. He is survived by his loving wife, Sara (Kitty) Gaskins, daughter, Gigi Marie Gaskins, son, Gavin Michael Gaskins, step-son, William Craig Hayes, step-daughter, Amy Elizabeth Hayes, grandchildren, Austin and Ashley Hayes, brothers, Omer Gaskins (Shirley); Marshall Gaskins (Carlene); nephews, Abe Gaskins (Sandra), Zeke Gaskins (Jamie), and Joe Gaskins (Angela).
After graduation from the University of Missouri, Gene joined the Marines and after boot camp, he attended Officer Training School; where he was honorably discharged due to a medical condition. He went on to become a very successful businessman; a visionary, with foresight, wisdom, and entrepreneurial skills. He moved to Hendersonville in 1961 to 'start a branch of Dallas Glass. From there he started several successful businesses. He was the founder and president of Nashville Tempered Glass, a full service custom glass fabricator with production facilities in Nashville and Hendersonville. He founded New Century, a boat window manufacturing company in Hendersonville, as well as Decor Glass. In the 60's, he started MGM windows along with w.e. Moncrieff and Larry Million. Gene enjoyed the glass industry, traveling to international glass shows in Italy and Germany many times to keep abreast of new technology. He considered himself very fortunate to have work he loved and always felt that having work that one loves, was pleasure, not work.

Gene enjoyed and was devoted to his family and wanted everyone to be happy, as he encouraged them to pursue their dreams. He enjoyed living and boating on Old Hickory Lake, golfing and fishing. He attended First Baptist Church in Hendersonville. Gene will be deeply missed by many. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8pm, Friday, November 25 at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 26, also at Hendersonville Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Sumner County Humane Society, 16 Volunteer Dr. Hendersonville, TN 37075.
