Age 82 of Hendersonville, went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2016. She was born in Fulton County, GA on September 13, 1933 to the late Roy and Alma Norton and had a brother, Bruce Alton Norton. She married her childhood sweetheart on March 21, 1953 and remained married a little over 60 years when her husband, Jim, passed away in May of 2013.
She was a woman of faith and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. As a young woman she was a wonderful homemaker who raised two amazing children. Later in life she wrote for the Hendersonville Free Press and also for the Hendersonville Star News. She was best known for her weekly article, Gayle's Tales. She was a highly successful real estate agent for Dobson & Johnson, Caldwell Bankers, and Remax Properties. Throughout her life she had many achievements, but her most recent award was the Lifetime Achievement and Honorary Award from The National League American Pen Women of which she was an active member for several decades. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed.
She was blessed to have her son, Joseph R. Hornsby; daughter, Gina Hornsby Deakins; grandchildren, Eric Bryan, Tiffany Hornsby, Emily Love (Chris), Anna Lambert (Terry), Alex Hornsby, and Chloe Bryan; great-grandchildren, Heaven, Boston, London, Scarlett, Iris, and Knox.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 pm and on Wednesday from 1-3 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hendersonville First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
