Age 19 of Hendersonville, TN passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015.
Gavin was born a healthy baby boy on March 14th 1996 to. He was always a very happy child and enjoyed playing with his toys. However, he would usually find a way to take all of them apart and rebuild them. His Power Wheels Truck was one of the first toys that endured the curiosity of his young mind.
Each day Gavin and his father would ride their bikes around-the-block, and surprisingly, by age four he was riding without training wheels. It was at this young age that he fell in love with two wheels. In fact, by age five, Gavin got his first motorcycle. Needless to say, the training wheels on the motorcycle were short-lived. He was thrilled to ride with his Uncle Harvey who was like a second father to him. Though Gavin was passionate about his motorcycles he also played sports.
When he was five Gavin started playing Pee-Wee Football, it was a moment in time which made his father extremely proud. In fact, the family often wonders if Gavin knew just how much his father loved the game. He went on to play for the next seven years. As the years went by family dynamics changed and Gavin gained a step-mother Dena, brother Justin Cook, sister Shenah Claborn. Additionally, he became a "big brother" to his niece Zoey Haynie, who he loved like a little sister. Gavin attended G.W. Brown Elementary School and was a graduate of Beech High School.
While in high school, Gavin found his first love, Carson. His family knows that he loved and respected her greatly. In high school, he was involved in the National FFA Organization and enjoyed attending shop class. His interests in high school and eagerness to learn helped him excel in his career working at Tenex Inc. alongside his father. He began by simply welding parts, but soon he was able to operate a press. Working in steel fabrication was second nature to Gavin. He seemed to be a lot like his father and Uncle Harvey in this respect too.
Gavin enjoyed working on his trucks, fixing them up, and customizing them with his personal touch. He also enjoyed traveling, in fact, one of the most memorable trips was with his mom, Kelly to see his grandfather in San Francisco, California.
He loved life and the people around him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He will not be forgotten.
He is survived by his father, Giles (Dena) Martin; mother, Kelly Martin; brothers, Lucas Taylor and Justin Cook; sister, Shenah Claborn; niece, Zoey Haynie; uncle, Harvey Martin IIII; aunts, Melissa Kennedy and Valerie Turk; grandfathers, Harvey Martin III and Bob Williams; grandmothers, Dolly Kennedy and Paula Ross; and many friends.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 4-8 and on Friday from 12-2. A life celebration will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 2 o'clock.
