Fred E. Stoops, 82, of Hendersonville, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019. Fred was the husband of Patsy Ann Stoops for 60 years. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. Fred leaves behind his wife, Patsy, two sons, Mike (Carol) and Russell (Billie), along with his two grandchildren, Miranda and Brenden Stoops.

Fred graduated from Tennessee Preparatory School in 1956. He was a gifted athlete and lettered 12 times. Fred was a Golden Gloves boxing champion. He attended East Mississippi Community College after receiving a football scholarship. East Mississippi inducted him into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. In the fall of 1958, Fred went to work for Lifeway Christian Resources (the Baptist Sunday School Board), where he spent the next 34 years serving in different leadership roles. Fred served as a deacon at several churches and was most recently a member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church. He was very involved in his children's activities which included coaching his son's baseball teams. His family describes him as being a loving, faithful and generous man who provided for them. Fred had a sense of humor and was known as being a jokester.

A Celebration of Life service for Fred will be held in the Chapel at Hendersonville First Baptist Church on Thursday, July 11th at 2:00PM. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 10th from 4:00PM-8:00PM, and again on Thursday, one hour prior to the service.

Contributions in Fred's name can be made to the Hendersonville First Baptist Church, Student Summer Camp program.
