Erskine Pond Ausbrooks, Jr., 87, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away on August 18, 2017. Born and reared in Hendersonville and a 7th generation of Ausbrooks to live in Sumner County, he was the son of E.P. and Eunice Ausbrooks. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving and devoted wife off 55 years, Virginia Russell Ausbrooks, sons Dr. Erskine P. Ausbrooks III and Jason Ausbrooks, and brother Donald Ausbrooks.

Erskine attended Vanderbilt University and graduated from The University of Mississippi, attending Harvard and Tufts universities with MA and MALD degrees in International Law and Diplomacy. He had a long and distinguished career in the US Navy, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following his retirement he worked as an administrator at TPS and then served as City Manager in Hendersonville during 1985 and later became the first popularly elected Mayor of Hendersonville serving from 1986 - 1988.

Erskine lived an incredibly full life, devoted to family and friends and will be forever remembered as a devoted son, loving husband, active father and grandfather and beloved uncle and a cherished friend to many. He was always learning, always teaching and had a great love of history, reading and family genealogy. Erskine was a life-long Baptist and deacon at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. It is impossible to count the many lives that he touched with his faith, his giving and generous nature and his loving concern for his fellow man.

He is survived by his daughter Judy Ausbrooks, sons Jon and Danny Ausbrooks, granddaughters Ashlyn, Haley and Erin Ausbrooks, brother Bobby (Lucy) Ausbrooks and many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 25th at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service, officiated by nephew Rev. Tom Russell, will follow on Saturday, August 26th at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment in the Field of Honor Section of the Hendersonville Memory Gardens cemetery.
