Emory Calhoun Register, Jr., age 85, passed away in Hendersonville, Tennessee on July 7, 2023. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on February 24, 1938 to the late Allie and Emory Register. Emory is also preceded in death by his spouse of 31 years, Louise Wauford Register. He is survived by children, Jeff Register (Judy) and Jill Register Bennett (Donny); and grandchildren, Amber Williford (Christian), Caitlin Register, Brady Bennett, and Remington Chambers.
Emory was a 1955 graduate of Berrien County High School in Nashville, Georgia. He received a bachelor’s degree from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee and received his bachelor’s degree in Divinity at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1964 in Louisville, Kentucky. Emory spent the first 25 years of his career as a Baptist Minister. He worked with several Tennessee governors, beginning with Lamar Alexander to create and implement study skills programs targeted at high school students across the state. Emory was a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville for 32 years and was active in his Sunday school class. He was an avid University of Tennessee fan. Emory enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach and the mountains. He enjoyed his friends and fellow residents at The Hearth of Hendersonville. Emory served on the board for the Homeowner’s Association of Glen Oaks subdivision for 22 years.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with Memorial Service immediately following visitation at First Baptist Church Hendersonville with Pastor Jeff Lake officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
