Emma Jo Orr, 88 and a half, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12th, 2019. Preceded in death by her husband, Vincent L. Orr, son, James Dillard Orr and parents, Burris and Bessie Russ along with two brothers and a sister. Survived by her sons; Dan David Orr and Jody Vincent Orr, three grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Emma was born on January 28th, 1931 in High Point, North Carolina where she grew up on a farm. She moved to Tennessee in the 1950's and was military wife, mother and caretaker. Emma retired from J.C. Penney's where she worked as a sales representative. Emma and her husband Vincent were long time members of Hendersonville First Baptist Church. She was a spiritual woman who loved reading the Bible. Emma claimed to have read the entire Bible seven times. She enjoyed gardening, solving crossword puzzles, observing nature, especially humming birds, traveling to the ocean. Her favorite travel destinations included; North Carolina, Calabash, Land Between the Lakes and the Smokey Mountains. Emma enjoyed listening to religious and classical music. She was known to be a good cook and her cooking talents carried over to holiday meals. Emma loved having her family together during the holidays. Emma was a positive mother figure who always gave her family advice on life and will be dearly missed.
A graveside service for Emma will be held at Hendersonville Memory Gardens on Wednesday, August 14th at 11:00AM. Please meet at graveside in the Field of Honor.
