Elmer Phillips

Elmer Phillips, 86, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, went to sleep in the Lord on September 12, 2018, at the Gallatin Center for Rehabilitation and Healing in Gallatin, Tennessee.

He was born on June 16, 1932, to Elbert and Otta Sutton Phillips of Cosby, in Cocke County, Tennessee.

Elmer married Betty June Hunter on August 24, 1951. They had four children, Kathy, Terry, Genella and Euel. He worked as an automobile mechanic for Waynesville Transmission Service, a production worker for Harris Pine Mills, and later as a truck driver for Angelica Healthcare Corporation, where he worked until his retirement.

Elmer was faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for 56 years and held several responsible positions in its communion. He was a spiritual leader to his family and an inspiration to those who knew him. He was an avid birdwatcher and fly fisherman. Elmer played guitar, mandolin, and the harmonica. He also loved gardening, rock collecting and his dogs.

Elmer is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty June, his three children; Kathy Tyler of Crossville, Tennessee, Terry Phillips of Waynesville, North Carolina and Genella Hoover of Hendersonville, Tennessee; his thirteen grandchildren; Jereme, Nathan, Jonathan, Mandy, Amy Valerie, Daniel, Adelina, Mason, Marlena, Sarah, John and Lilly; his great grandchildren; Gallen, Seth, Caleb, Hannah, Kezzia, and Sydney. His surviving siblings are his brothers; Ernest, Zeb, Jack, Kelly, Mitchell, and his sisters; Corena, Collene and Lorena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Elbert and Otta Phillips; his son; Euel, his granddaughter; Valerie; his brothers; Burton and Beecher, and his sister Nora.

Memorial services will be held at the Hendersonville Seventh-day Adventist Church, 118 Anderson Lane, Hendersonville, TN 37075, on September 16, 2018, at 5:00 P.M. in Hendersonville, Tennessee with a time a visitation from 4-5pm. Pastor Jerry Rimer of the Hendersonville SDA Church will be officiating. The church will provide a meal in the fellowship hall following the service.

There will also be a memorial service at the White Oak Baptist Church, 7589 White Oak Road, Waynesville, North Carolina 28785 on October 7, 2018. Visitation will be at 2:00 P.M. and at 3:00 P.M., Elder Brian Myers of the Waynesville Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate.
