Eileen Koltowich

February 2, 1922 — July 14, 2019

Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 2, 1922 Departed on July 14, 2019 and resided in Hendersonville, TN

Eileen Koltowich age 97, beloved wife and mother from Hendersonville, TN passed away peacefully on Sunday July 14th, 2019. Eileen was born on February 22nd of 1922 in New York City to the late John & Mary Kozak. Eileen had a passion for good conversation and laughter, along with a quick wit and sense of humor. Her memory of decades of stories of growing up with Russian parents in a small town in New Jersey was a great source of entertainment and fun. Her father John immigrated from Russia, became a self-made businessman, and eventually owned and operated a factory tailoring and supplying military coats for World War II, and later outdoor coats and ladies' suits. Eileen was his bookkeeper until her marriage in 1952 to Alexander Koltowich. Alex built them a cottage on Upper Greenwood Lake in New Jersey, where they lived happily, having their daughter Mary Anne in 1955. The family then moved to Nashville, TN where Alex managed a civil engineering firm and directed the Nashville capitol redevelopment, among other road and bridges projects.

Eileen was a true believer of the American Dream and considered herself always an American first and foremost. She was a talented painter & artist, and joyfully gave her art to close family and friends. She enjoyed being a homemaker, decorating the home, and entertaining business associates and friends. She came to love pro football, with Joe Montana, Brett Favre, and Tom "Terrific" Brady being her favorite quarterbacks, thinking football players were modern gladiators. Eileen had always loved tennis and always watched the big matches. But her favorite was the Olympics, watching all the sports for hours on end, missing nothing.
Eileen is remembered by her daughter and best friends as being a lover of life, a lover of animals, a person fiercely independent, and a fighter to live as she wanted, and she accomplished all of that living in her beautiful home in Hendersonville until her passing.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Alexander Koltowich, Sister Mary Kasper, Brother John Kozak, and her Niece Claire Urbaniak.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Anne & (Jim Smith) Koltowich of Kingston TN, Nephew Alan & (Maryellen) Kasper of Seaside Park NJ, Niece Judy & (Patrick) Durkin of Brick NJ, Niece Betsy Kozak of Toms River NJ, Sister-in-law Barbara Lee Kozak of Toms River NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eileen's honor to the Sumner County Humane Society. Donations can be made online at https://www.sumnerhumane.org/
