Edward M. Allred

November 13, 1933 — June 29, 2024

Edward M. Allred went to meet the Lord on June 29, 2024. He was born November 13, 1933, in rural Blount County, Alabama and spent most of his young life in the “camps” of Cheney Limestone Company. 

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, David Andrew (“Bud”) and Maude E. (Hill) Allred; infant brother, Jimmy Wayne Allred; sister-in-law, Reba (Tidmore) Allred; brother, Paul Allred; granddaughter, Sawyer Kate Allred; sister, Melonia Tidwell; and most recently, brother and best friend, John David Allred.

Edna (McGowan) Allred, Ed’s wife of 68 years, survives him, as do his brother, Robert T. (Ronnie) Allred; brother-in-law, Everett Tidwell; son, Edward, Jr. and wife Melinda (Johnson) of Draper, UT; and daughter, Janet and husband David Carr of Nashville. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Mathew Brooking (wife, Jennifer), Sean Allred (wife, Kendall), David Andrew Carr (partner, Grace Hannoy), and great grandchildren, Violet and Cooper Brooking and Everett Mim Allred as well as numerous dear nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ed graduated from Oneonta High School in Alabama and later, utilizing the GI Bill, he graduated from Troy State University in Alabama. After joining the US Air Force at 17 years old, Ed was stationed in numerous foreign and domestic locations, and served in various interesting positions including courier for the Paris Peace Talks and manager of a US post office on Terceira, Azores. After retirement from the USAF, Ed had a long career with the Department of Defense at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. 

For many years, Ed was an active member at First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, TN.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Hendersonville Memory Gardens & Funeral Home, 353 E. Main Street, Hendersonville from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A funeral service, open to friends and family, will be held graveside at 1:00 PM with First Baptist Church Associate Pastor Jerry Wooley officiating. Burial to follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.

Ed had a soft place in his heart for hungry people, especially children and was a longtime supporter of The Backpack Ministry at First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to this ministry at First Baptist Church, 106 Bluegrass Commons Boulevard, Hendersonville, TN 37075.
