Hendersonville, TN

Eddie G. Long (Geno), 66, of Hendersonville, TN, sadly left this world on February 21, 2023, after a tragic car accident.

Geno was born on September 28, 1956, to Joyce Murray and Eddie Long in Indianapolis, Indiana. Geno was very close to his siblings growing up and loved playing baseball. During high school, Geno enlisted to serve in the Navy and served our country from 1973-1977. Geno worked at the Defense and Finance Accounting Services (DFAS) from 1978-2012. He received numerous awards for outstanding performance while at DFAS. During this time, he attended college at Vincennes University, where he graduated in 1987 with a major in business management.

Geno was family-oriented, full of life, hard-working, and adventurous. He never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. Geno was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved being outdoors and his favorite pastimes included playing softball, hunting, and fishing. Family described him as “the life of the party, always up for a good time.”

Geno is survived by his three children: Christine (Alan) Lewis of Greenwood, IN, Jeremy (Rachelle) Long of Holland, Michigan, and Jennifer (Billy) Wilcox of New Palestine, IN; 5 grandchildren: Jackson Lewis, Beckett Wilcox, Emmett Long, Isabella Wilcox, and Alexandria Long; his mother, Joyce Murray; four siblings: Debbie Wakefield, Cathy Nutter, Jerry Long, and Mike Murray; and several other loved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Eddie Long.

As We Look Back – unknown author

As we look back over time
We find ourselves wondering …..
Did we remember to thank you enough
For all you have done for us?
For all the times you were by our sides
To help and support us …..
To celebrate our successes
To understand our problems
And accept our defeats?
Or for teaching us by your example,
The value of hard work, good judgment,
Courage and integrity?
We wonder if we ever thanked you
For the sacrifices you made.
To let us have the very best?
And for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared?
If we have forgotten to show our
Gratitude enough for all the things you did,
We’re thanking you now.
And we are hoping you knew all along,
How much you meant to us.

Family will have a celebration of life with details to follow.
