Dr. Michael Harper Harris, age 70 of Hendersonville, TN was born April 17, 1950, and passed away on December 17, 2020.
He was the son of Aubrey and Velma Sullivan of Memphis, TN and grew up in Covington, TN where he graduated from Byars-Hall High School in 1968 and was a record-setting athlete and football player. He attended college at Memphis State University where he met Beverly Dorris of Hendersonville, TN. Mike and Beverly married December 19, 1970 and after receiving his bachelors degree from MSU, Mike went on to Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN where he would begin a career to help others see more clearly in more ways than one.
Dr. Harris lived his life showing the world the true meaning of dedication to faith and family. His absolute greatest joy was spending time with his family any and every way he could, and his influence will live on as a result of the many ways he invested in others. In his spare time, you could most often find him showing his support at a ball field, or in his kitchen cooking. Anyone close to him knows how much he loved to cook for those he cared for, and any ball player who had his support knows the lasting impression of his quiet strength and seemingly limitless wisdom and insight; but his favorite and most prized role at the ball field was watching as a proud Dad, and then proud "Papa Mike".
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly; son Michael Paul (Jennifer) of Hendersonville, TN; daughter Amy (Ian) Kovarsky of Lone Tree, CO; grandchildren Carson (17), Cam (8), Julie (6), Harper (1); sister Suzanne (Keith) Liberty of Atoka, TN; parents Aubrey and Velma Sullivan of Memphis, TN; and extended family Petr and Andela Miksik of Boca Raton, FL.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Hendersonville Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 23 from 4pm to 8pm, and Thursday, December 24 from 9:30am to 10:30am. A chapel service will be held at 10:30am after visitation with interment immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Safe Place for Animals in Gallatin, TN.
