Douglas McGrew White was born on March 6, 1960 in Tupelo, MS to the late Paula (McGrew) and Jack White. He is survived by his son, Andrew White. He also had one brother, Duffy. Doug's family moved around the South due to his dad's work in the airline industry, but finally settled in the Memphis area. This is where Doug made many of his lifelong friends. A stellar athlete, Doug lettered in football, basketball, and baseball for Highway Baptist Academy, and was chosen as the Conference MVP his senior basketball season. Doug was also a competitive and life-long fisherman and golfer.
Doug married Barbara Whitney in 1988 and they had their son, Andrew in 1990. Though divorced, they remained friends until his death.
Doug had a 35 year career in the hospitality industry, primarily as a General Manager for Marriott Courtyard and Fairfield Inn type hotels, but he also worked for several years in the casino business. Over the span of his career he worked in hotels in 14 states and was frequently recognized for his outstanding performance. In 1992, he was awarded General Manager of the year from Courtyard Marriott.
Doug was a devout University of Alabama Crimson Tide football fan and he was also a great fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He was an incredible cook and loved to host a get together, especially if it involved rooting for either of these teams.
Doug's trivia login name was "Tide", and he consistently scored at the top of local and national Trivia game players at restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings. His depth of knowledge on almost all subject matters was fascinating.
Doug passed away on February 4th in Southhaven, MS. He will be greatly missed by family and friends throughout the country.
