Dorothy M. Smith- age 81 of Hendersonville passed away December 27, 2015.

She was born in Westmoreland, TN on August 27, 1934; daughter to the late Leslie and Etta Carter. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Smith; brothers, David, Joe, Robert, Donald and Deward Carter; sister, Delphyn Heck.

She is survived by her sons, Mark (Karen) Smith of Vero Beach, Fl and Michael (Chris) Smith of Hendersonville, TN; grandsons, Eric (Elina) Rubin-Smith and Patrick Smith; granddaughter, Paige Smith and great-granddaughter, Eden Rubin-Smith.

"Dot" was a wonderful and generous wife, mother and friend who was always willing to help others in need. Earlier in her life she worked as a life coach to disadvantaged high-school age girls. She loved her "Willing Workers" Sunday school class at Inglewood Methodist and made many lifelong friends there.

She also loved quiet Sunday afternoons with her sister-in-law Peggy and her husband Chester, helping them make homemade ice cream for all the children of the families.

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on Wednesday at 2pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
