Darrell Hooks- age 88 of Hendersonville, TN passed away May 20, 2015.
As a young man he proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. After the war, he was primarily a painter, but he also was a furrier. Darrell had a tender and kind heart. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife Mildred were inseparable, and shared many things together. They enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and crafting. Though his kind heartedness was apparent to all he encountered, he was a quiet and humble man. However, in his humility he was a perfectionist. He never liked to be in the spotlight, but much rather preferred to be behind the scenes. Though he was a quiet man, his emotions could easily be seen in his eyes. During the trial of his illness, Darrell endured a lot of pain, yet he never complained. He turned his concern toward his wife, Mildred.
He is preceded in death by his children, Darrell Lea Hooks and Steven Lynn Hooks; and grandson, Jerry Shadix, Jr.
He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 71 years, Mildred Hooks; children, Patricia Hooks-Fortune and Brenda Hooks-Shadix (Jerry); grandchildren, Angie, Brandon, Bradley and Starr; great-grandchildren, Jera, Garrett and McKinly.
A Life Celebration service will be held on Saturday at 2p.m. at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
