Age 25 of Hendersonville, TN, passed on to our Father, after battling courageously with GVHD, a disease acquired from his bone marrow transplant at the age of 15. This ten year battle ended in the early morning of October 26, 2015, in his bedroom.
Cody, a child known for his caring and happy disposition, was born in West Monroe, Louisiana. By three months, the family relocated to Lawrenceville, Georgia. These were Cody's happiest and most carefree days. There, he developed strong friendships. By age 10, his family relocated to Hendersonville, TN. He attended Indian Lake Elementary School, Robert E. Ellis Middle School and Hendersonville High School. There he made his closest friendships with people that he truly loved. In high school, he was a member of the marching band, a bass drummer. Here he and his friends made some of Cody's favorite stories and fondest memories. He also had a natural understanding of math. He saw things mathematically. He placed 2nd in Statistics at a High School math competition. He was proud of that accomplishment.
It was at this point, age 15, when Cody was diagnosed with MDS-Myelodysplastic Syndrome. He had the bone marrow transplant with complete faith that he was disease free. Then graf vs host issues began. His body was tormented, but the spirit of his soul shone through his eyes.
After graduation from Hendersonville High School in 2008, Cody began studies at Volunteer State Community College, where he was selected as a Presidential Ambassador. He also volunteered in the math lab as a tutor, where he touched many people. He attempted to continue a four year degree at Austin Peay University as well as Tennessee Tech University, but each time he became ill and hospitalized making it impossible to complete a degree. This always grieved him.
Cody's love for music continued. He enjoyed drums and keyboarding. He valued his family trips and wanted to see the Grand Canyon. He loved his family and spoke often of his friends. His memories were old, but they were current to him, for his health kept him from making new ones. Amazingly, he never complained, not once about his plight. He was strong, loving, compassionate, always found good in people, and especially faithful to our Lord. He is the kind of person that makes others glad they knew him.
Cody developed a strong bond with his doctors and caregivers over the years. He especially loved Dr. Haydar Frangoul, who gave much of his time to Cody.
