Claude Nicholas Groom, 70, of Hendersonville, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Pace Groom, parents; Hugh Groom and Patricia Freeman, step-mother, Judith Wooten and step-son, Ernest Walker Jr. Survived by his son, Kenneth Groom, brother, David Groom, step-children; Shelly Wilson, Ray Walker (Marci) and Heather Beavers (Gilbert), grandchildren; Frankie Brooks, Daniel Wilson Jr., Joey Wilson, Julia Walker, Amanda Walker, Robert Walker, Kelly Beavers, Brian Walker and great-grandchild, Eli Hall. Claude is also survived by many extended family and friends.

Claude was born on May 25, 1949 in Washington D.C. He was a United States Army veteran who served in Vietnam as an automatic weapons crewman, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of VFW Post 482 in Forestville, MD where he was past Post Commander and District 1 Commander. He retired as the 137th Book Binder of the United States Senate. Claude enjoyed old cars, car shows, bowling, animals and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Claude will be dearly missed by his family and by all that knew him.

A Celebration of Life service with Military Honors will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home, 353 East Main Street on Saturday, May 30th at 4:00 PM. Visitation for family and friends will be begin at 1:00 PM.

Social distancing and gathering limits will be observed.
