Charlotte Ashford was born on September 17, 1937 to Charles and Persis Griffith in rural Shelby County. The eldest of 4 children, Charlotte helped her parents in many ways on their family farm. The importance of family is what mattered most to her. Family was her foundation. And she found a life partner who shared that same love of family.

Charlotte was a nurturing mother to her five children. She was always present and completely unflappable. Through every illness, crisis and disappointment, she was there to comfort and encourage her children. Her children and her husband were her everything.

Charlotte could always be found in the kitchen-this was true even after her children were grown and out of the house. She was an excellent cook who often used the bounty of her garden and fruit trees for canning and making preserves.

After she retired, Charlotte remained active in her church, served as President of the Family Consumer Education (FCE) Club, and was a caregiver for her mother.

In 2009, Charlotte was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Throughout her illness, Charlotte's loving, gentle spirit remained.

She was a devoted daughter, loving wife and most importantly, a caring mother and grandmother. Preceded in death by her husband Richard G. Ashford. She is survived by her sons, Russell and Charles (Marie); and daughters, Theresa Heflin (Mark), Gina Roach (Sean), and Michelle Moyers (Robert). Nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A life celebration service for Charlotte will be held at Gratitude Methodist Church in Arlington, TN on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:30am, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Charlotte's memory to The Pat Summitt Foundation; 520 W. Summit Hill Drive, Suite 101; Knoxville, TN 37902.
