Charles E. Yancey, Sr., age 83 of Gallatin, TN, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Charles was born in 1938 in Nashville, TN. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Yancey, and his parents, Charles Austin Yancey and Elizabeth Reynolds Yancey. He is survived by his sister, Sarah James Whaley and his four children, Belinda (Joel) Harrison, Barbara Holder, Bitsy (Thor) Yates, and Chuck (Christie) Yancey, 8 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Charles graduated from BGA where he enjoyed playing on the basketball team. He married the love of his life, Margie, June 1, 1957. He attended MTSU, receiving a B.A. in Business Management. Charles worked in insurance, starting as an adjuster, working for Crawford & Company, then became Manager of Grange Mutual Insurance, and later he worked as the Executive Vice-President and Risk Manager for Baptist Hospital. He was highly regarded in his career and after retiring from Baptist Hospital, Charles accepted a position as Risk Management Consultant for Averitt Trucking and was later the Risk Management Consultant for Southeast Waffles before permanently retiring to care for his wife.
Charles served as a board member of Gladeville United Methodist church for many years. He enjoyed farming and boating and served as a board member and Commodore of Old Hickory Yacht Club. Charles also enjoyed travelling and attending car shows. He was often seen driving around Sumner County in his 1952 Pontiac Chieftain.
Charles was a dedicated, modest, loving and devoted husband, father and friend. He was often a quiet man, but when he spoke, he spoke with kindness and wisdom. He will be greatly missed by all whose life he touched.
A celebration of life will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home, 353 East Main Street, in Hendersonville, on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 2 P.M. Visitation with the family will begin at 12 P.M.
