Catherine Goodpasture Halsey of Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away at Skyline Medical Center on Monday, January 24th, a few days after her 89th birthday.
She was born on January 14th, 1933, in Livingston, Tennessee to the late Ray and Myrtle Goodpasture. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Zealon E. Halsey and sister Dorothy Goodpasture. Catherine and Zealon had one child, Michael J. (Lisa) Halsey of Nashville; two grandchildren, Caitlin Halsey Ritchie (Graham) of Nashville and Logan Halsey of San Jose, CA, who lovingly referred to her as "Mama Peach." She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Isabella and Elizabeth of Nashville, who affectionately called her "G.G."
Services to celebrate Catherine’s life will be held at 1pm on the afternoon of Friday, January 28, 2022 at Hendersonville Funeral Home with Charles Baugh officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the start of the service from 11am-1pm
Catherine was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, most recently a member of the Goodlettsville Church of Christ. She volunteered at the church as a Sunday School teacher and in numerous ministries and charities as long as her health allowed and strove to nourish all around her with her faith in all aspects of her life.
A gifted scholar, she began school early at Livingston Academy at the age of four and went on to graduate from David Lipscomb University. Her proudest accomplishment was teaching 4th, 5th and 6th grades for 42 years in Nashville City Schools, in Metro Schools for the gifted program at Dalewood, and at Goodpasture Christian School. The niece of the school's namesake, Benton Cordell "B.C." Goodpasture, she felt that her work at Goodpasture Christian School brought her full circle in life. She was a passionate teacher, beloved by her students, and organized numerous extra-curricular clubs and activities, notably directing student plays broadcast on WDCN television. She remembered and had a kind word for every student she ever taught.
She was much loved and will be deeply missed by her friends, relatives, and community.
