Age 92 of Hendersonville, passed away on August 4, 2015 at her home and surrounded by her loving family.
Catherine was born and raised in Nashville and spent most of her life in Nashville. Shortly after being married, her husband was called to fight in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Meanwhile, Catherine lived on the Carter family farm in Nashville. She also lived for a short time in Harrisburg, PA with her family awaiting the return of her husband from the war. After the war, they settled their family in Nashville and established Carter Hardware in 1945. The hardware store in which every member of the family worked at some point or another holds a fond place in the memories of all of the children. The lessons of hard work were instilled in all as they assisted wherever help was needed.
Since 1943 Catherine maintained a home with children present, and as the years passed, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren graced the rooms of her home. She loved her family and showed her love to all she encountered throughout her life. She had an inborn gift to act as a loving caregiver to her entire family. When recalling her memory, the words gentle, soft-spoken, gracious, and unassuming come to mind. She had a natural beauty that was evident to all. She was a peacemaker and "was the glue that held everything and everyone together." She had an insatiable love of reading and enjoyed mystery novels and arranging flowers and was the Garden Club President. She was a Girl Scout leader and room mother. She was a charter member of Bluegrass Yacht and Country Club, Ravenwood Club and Baypoint Yacht and Country Club in Florida. Above all, she was a woman of deep faith in the Lord and was a long-time member of St. Philip Episcopal Church in Donelson, however, three years ago she became a member of St. Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church in Hendersonville. Her faith manifested itself in her love of neighbors and family.

Jones Wagner; step father, Raymond Wagner; her husband of sixty years, Richard Edward Carter Sr.; brother, Charles Jones Jr.; sons-in-law, Ron Richardson and Salvatore Palazzolo; and grandchildren, Heather Leah Howe and Stephen Paul Howe Jr and nephew, Charles Wagner.
