Brett David Southers passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home in Gallatin, Tennessee, on February 18, 2025. His family is deeply saddened by his death, and he will be missed. Brett was born April 20, 1978, in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Brett is survived by his mother, Susan Knight Collins of Gallatin, Tennessee, his brother Mick Southers of Westfield, Indiana, his niece, Olivia Southers, and his daughter, Ava Mahin Southers, of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Brett was preceded in death by his father, Dennis W. Southers, of Swayzee, Indiana, his paternal grandparents, Charles and Thelma Ruth Southers, and maternal grandparents, Harold and Audrey Knight, all of Valparaiso, Indiana.
Brett graduated from Penn High School in 1996. Thereafter, he began a career in the restaurant business at the Holiday Star Theatre in Merrillville, Indiana. In Indianapolis, he managed Noodles and Company Restaurant. After moving to Nashville, Tennessee he held several executive chef positions, including Bakersfield Taco. The onset of COVID caused Brett to leave the restaurant business and pursue his love of cars, especially BMW’s, which he turned into a freelance business performing coding and diagnostic services for BMW owners.
Brett loved listening to all genres of music, watching movies and TV and was uncannily able to recite lyrics and quotes, which his family believes all started at the age of four with his love of the movie Grease.
We are hopeful that memories of Brett will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Donations in his memory may be made to Animal Rescue Corp, https://animalrescuecorps.givecloud.co
