Mr. Billy "Boots" Scott, age 77, of Hendersonville, TN passed away on Tuesday October 15th, 2019. Funeral services for Mr. Scott will be held on Saturday, October 19th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Hendersonville First United Methodist Church with interment to follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. The family will receive visitors at Hendersonville First United Methodist on Friday, October 18th from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning October 19th from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m.
Billy was born in Old Hickory, TN and a graduate of DuPont High School and Middle Tennessee State University. He was lovingly known as "Boots" by friends and family. An excellent athlete, he was inducted into the DuPont Hall of Fame as a basketball player. A longtime resident of Hendersonville, he was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church and Bluegrass Country Club. He had a passion for coaching which he fulfilled by being a teacher and coach at Hawkins Junior High and Beech High School from its opening in 1980 until his retirement. He was part of the inaugural class inducted into the Beech High School Athletic Hall of Fame. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time playing golf, traveling, playing cards with friends, and spoiling his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Scott & Bessie Raymer, brothers Donnie Scott and Jimmy Scott, and nephew Sean McGowan. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Mrs. Gail McGowan Scott, daughter Julie (Corey) Barnard, daughter Kathy (Heath) Crawford, and son Billy Scott Jr.; grandchildren Michael Barnard, Cortney Barnard, Alison Crawford and Erin Crawford; brother Jerry (Patsy) Scott, brother-in-laws Leslie McGowan, and Bobby (Sally) McGowan, niece Sarah (William) Jennings as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will include: Jeff Lovell, Dicky Moran, Michael Barnard, Heath Crawford, Corey Barnard, Johnny Lynn, and Dennis Dean. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Rager, Doug Hall, Jerry Vradenburg, Zollie Sircy, Larry Harrison, Steve Briggs, Johnny Moore, Tony Congiardo, Kenneth & Patsy Weatherford, The Bluegrass Garden Club, Rebecca Lunsford & Poe Williams Sunday School Class.
Boots was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Beech High School athletics (checks can be made out to BHS Athletics/CO Boots, 3126 Long Hollow Pike, Hendersonville, TN 37075) or Hendersonville First United Methodist Church.
