Billy J. Binkley, age 81 of Dickson, TN, was relieved of his earthly sufferings and embraced in the arms of the Lord on August 12, 2016. He passed peacefully on to his heavenly reward in the comfort of his home surrounded by family.
Billy will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a quiet and humble man who had a wonderful sense of humor. His intelligence and quick wit would easily put a smile on our faces. Billy loved all the outdoors had to offer; namely, hunting and fishing. He was also a skilled taxidermist.
He retired at age 55 from Ford Glass Company after 37-plus years of dedicated service as a furnace operator. After retirement, Billy and Martha relocated from Hendersonville to Dickson, where they lived in a lovely home. Billy's children recall, "their marriage was an example to us all." Despite having been married for decades, Billy and Martha would still carry on lengthy conversations and truly enjoy one another's companionship. They also loved to watch westerns and football. Spending time cooking together in the kitchen was another way they fed each other, both in body and soul.
Our memories of Billy will also include his passion for barbeque. He enjoyed barbequing ribs; however, his favorite cut was the boston butt. When it came to barbeque, Billy would carefully smoke a butt for seven to eight hours to prepare an amazing feast for his family. His tasty creations will certainly live on.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Versie Binkley; brother, Hugh Binkley; and grandson, Brian Clifton Binkley.
Billy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Martha Ina Binkley; son, Terry Jackson (Vicki) Binkley; daughters, Sheila Gayle (Johnny) Mitchell, Lisa Lynn Binkley and her boyfriend Luke Thomas Sines; grandson, Dillon (Brandy) Mitchell; sisters, Christine McGown, Mildred Biggs; niece, Angie (Ollie) McVeay; nephew, John (Mary) Gunka; many other extended family members; and several treasured friends.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jerry Peace. All will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
