James William Swift - Age 86, went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2017. "Billy" was a graduate of East High School and was a member of the Spanish Club, Library Staff and the Boy-Girl Friendship Club. His senior year he was in Mrs. Hope Cooper's algebra II class. Doris Marie Pendleton was also in this class and in her own words said, "I looked across the room and there seated right by the pencil sharpener by the door was this beautiful dark brown eyes, dark brown hair, darker than light brown skin, skinny boy. It was love at first sight for me!!"
Billy and Doris married April 25, 1952 at Edgefield Baptist Church. They were married for 63 years and 2 months. Billy was a member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church and part of a wonderful men's Sunday school class. He also was a member of the local pipe fitters union and was awarded the outstanding apprentice of 1952. He also was a very good golfer... but there is not enough space to tell all those "stories". He will be forever remembered as a wonderful husband, dad, granddaddy, and friend to all. He was kind and always placed others needs before his own needs. A special thanks to Marti Swift who was a special caregiver and made many great personal sacrifices.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Marie Pendleton Swift "Class of 1950"; his sons, Michael David Swift, John King Swift, and Gary William Swift. He is survived by his sons; Mark Swift (Marti Swift, daughter-in-law) and Matthew Swift; grandchildren James William, and Daniel Swift, Emily Poole Cheyenne, Jennifer, Jeffery and Zachary Swift, Logan and Iris Toon, Greg and Stormy Bugg.
