Betty Lou Baxter Dorris

Betty Lou Baxter Dorris, age 88, of Hendersonville passed away on September 21, 2023. Betty was born on December 13, 1934, in Carroll County, Tennessee to the late John (Willie) and Mary Baxter.

Betty graduated from Trezevant High School in 1953.  She moved to Nashville after graduation.  She married Roy Dorris, and they established their home in Hendersonville.  She was retired from Nashville Electric Service.  Both she and her husband were both private pilots and enjoyed flying for many years.  Betty was an active member of the Hendersonville VFW Post 9851.  She loved to travel to the beach and the mountains and took many trips with family and friends.  Her nephews and nieces affectionately referred to her as Aunt “Boo”.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Montgomery Dorris Jr., and brothers, James Paul Baxter and Billy Wray Baxter.

Betty is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Jane Spellings; nephews, James Baxter (Tammy), Jeff Baxter (Susie), Jack Baxter (Cindy), Dewayne Spellings, and Michael Spellings; and nieces, Kim Yeater, Kathi Lattus (Tony), Karen Wheeler, and Michelle Martin (Matt) and several great nephews and nieces and great great nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. After visitation, a service will be held at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
