Barbara Jean Whitehurst

Barbara Jean Whitehurst, age 88, of Hendersonville, passed away on

Thursday, October 5th, 2023.

She was born on April 30th, 1935 to the late George Edwin Spencer and Julia Inez Allen. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1957, with a masters degree in education. Barbara married the love of her life, James, on May 20, 1960 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was later transferred to Tennessee, where she then raised two daughters while also dedicating 25 years of her life working as an English and Spanish teacher. After retirement she worked at the Hendersonville Library for 10 years. 

Barbara’s passion was being a mother, grandmother and wife. She loved to cook, knit, play golf and enjoyed reading. 

Barbara is survived by her

daughters, Angela Sati of Hendersonville, and Lisa (Dr. Gerald) Madler, of Columbus, Georgia;

1 niece, Kristine Hansen, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; nephew, Curtis Bonner, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama;

along with 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts. We would love for you to come and honor her life. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 16th, 2023 at

Hendersonville Memory Gardens,

353 East Main Street, in Hendersonville, at 11 A.M. Visitation with the family will begin at 10 A.M.
