Barbara Allen Fahey, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away peacefully early in the morning of September 7, 2016 at the age of 74.
Barbara will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her legacy as fun-loving, kind-hearted, silly, protective and sweet natured will truly live on in our memories for years to come. She was a dedicated homemaker who always made sure her family's needs were met. "Taking care of us" was of top priority to mom, recalled her daughters. Barbara made it her work to spoil her granddaughter, Cassi, and her great-grandchildren.
She played an important role in raising her granddaughter, and Cassi says "after having kids of her own that her grandmother 's love and dedication to family has helped guide her in raising her own children." Cassi will cherish the phone calls and late night talks with her grandmother which truly helped mold her into the wife and mother she has become.
Her favorite way to pass the time was with her family, and she especially enjoyed playing various games on the Nintendo Wii. She certainly bonded with Cassi's husband, Shawn Smith over a game or two of bowling on the Wii. Barbara was also an avid reader who primarily thumbed the pages of paperback novels by Danielle Steele. She enjoyed the sounds of country music, especially that of Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, and Elvis. Having a sweet tooth, she delighted in a slice of Sweet 'n Sassy Cake.
Christmas held a particularly fond place in Barbara's heart, and there are many fond memories of the family gathering to share a special dinner together each year. She also had the talent to cook just about anything that was requested from her. Her home also welcomed her parish priest, Father Ed Arnold, who at that time, was pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Father Arnold was a welcome and familiar guest in the Fahey household.
Barbara routinely volunteered her time and talent to clean the parish church which was located off of Shackle Island Road at that time. She and her family also hosted quite a few Home Masses which were offered by Father Arnold with twenty to thirty other parishioners gathered in prayer. Most of the time a period of fellowship and a meal were shared after Mass. These are merely a few of the memories which we will all treasure.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Inez Allen; and her son, Shawn Fahey. Barbara is survived by her loving and faithful husband of fifty-three years, Pat Fahey; daughters, Debbie Fahey, Sharie Fahey; granddaughter, Cassi (Shawn) Smith; great-grandchildren, Patrick and Lillian Smith; twin brother, Bill (Betty Jo) Allen; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Hendersonville Funeral Home, 353 E. Main Street, Hendersonville, TN 37075. A Mass will be offered for Barbara's peaceful repose on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1729 Stop 30 Road, Hendersonville, TN 37075. Entombment in the mausoleum of Hendersonville Memory Gardens will follow Holy Mass.
