Atwell A. "Sonny" Hill Jr., age 77 of Hendersonville, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018. Preceded in death by his parents, Atwell Alston Hill Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Black) Hill. Survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Elizabeth (Wier) Hill, children, Atwell Alston Hill III (Kerri), Jason Kendall Hill (Micaela) and Lauren Elizabeth Hill, grandchildren, Hallie Vastola, Alexis, Sofia and Blake Hill, brother, Ed Hill (Ann), sister, Shirley Lawrence (Glenn) and his dog, Bear. Sonny is also survived by many extended family and friends.

Sonny was born on October 5, 1940 in Donelson, Tennessee. He was a United States Navy veteran, and served aboard the USS Wedderburn, DD-684. Sonny then worked as a millwright for DuPont and later retired as Operations Vice President with Centurion Stone after 44 years. He enjoyed Sunday road trips, especially to the Smoky Mountains. His work and family were very important to him and he made sure they were provided for. Sonny will be dearly missed by his family and by all those that knew him.

A Celebration of Life service for Sonny will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home on Friday, August 17th at 1:00pm, officiated by Mr. Kenneth Wier. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening, August 16th from 4:00pm-8:00pm and again one hour prior to the service on Friday.
