Age 88, of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away on August 22, 2015.
Andrew was born in Northampton, Pennsylvania in 1927 to Andrew and Mary Russac. They eventually moved to the Germantown section of New York City before entering into his teenage years. The family then later settled in South Floral Park, Long Island with his siblings Louis, Marie, and Christine.
He was a graduate of Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, NY where he came to know his wife Jeanne through his sister Marie. He enlisted in the service, joining the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was an aircraft mechanic working on jet engines for the famous Thunderbirds. Using his GI bill Andrew then became a student and graduate of Farmingdale College on Long Island.
As WWII came to a conclusion and peace prevailed, he and Jeanne started their family and went on to have four daughters who all had the title "favorite daughter." Andrew, with the help of his father and brother, established a construction company. However, as his career transitioned he became the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County New York.
He was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking in the beauty of the outdoors. In his spare time he continued to serve his community as a volunteer fireman and as chief of the local fire department. He was a village justice and was an active leader in local Republican politics.
After retiring in 2007 he and his wife moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee where they both enjoyed the company of their youngest daughter and two of their grandchildren and frequent visits from their other daughters, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Russac; brother and sisters, Louis, Marie and Christine.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jeanne Russac; daughters, Eileen Rushing (John) of SC, Kathleen Russac of Carmel, CA, Maureen Russac of Huntington Beach, CA, Christine Rasmussen (Allan) of Hendersonville, TN; grandsons, Nathan Rushing, Garrett Tumbleson, Hunter Tumbleson, Maxwell Rasmussen; granddaughter, Samantha Rasmussen; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
A life celebration will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Hendersonville Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1p.m. until service time. In addition, the family will have a memorial service on September 12, 2015 in New York.
