Alfred L. Morris born in Gravette, Arkansas on April 14, 1925. Died on August 22, 2015. Al was best known as a devoted husband, father, and Papa. At the young age of 18, he volunteered to serve his country in World War II. He served as a sharp shooter rifleman in the 317th Infantry Regiment in the European Theatre, Rhineland Campaign. As an infantry foot soldier in the Battle of the Bulge he spent 9 months on the frontline before he was hospitalized in France due to injuries to his feet. He was honorably discharged on July 31, 1945. Sixty nine years after his service, he was recognized by the U.S. Army in a medal presentation by Congresswoman Diane Black and Major General Max Haston. He was awarded the European Campaign Medal- Bronze Star and the Sharp Shooter Badge with Rifle Clasp.
Al was most known for his love of God, and the love for his devoted wife of 62 years, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and his wife were a leading force as charter members to bring the Seventh-Day Adventist Church to Hendersonville, TN where he served as a volunteer and on numerous committees. He was a sharp businessman with an entrepreneurial spirit. His quick wit and sense of humor brought delight to many. His mechanical mind and love of cars gave him many years of pleasure in the transportation business. Although an accomplished business owner, his greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara A. Morris, his brother J.P. Morris of Tulsa, OK. He is survived by his two sisters, Elizabeth Morris Manning of Springfield, MO, Frances Morris Talley, of Fayetteville, AR, four children, Cecelia Morris Bartholomew (Ken), Rod K. Morris (Debbie), Cynthia Morris Hosking (Brett), Carole Morris Carter (Andy), six grandchildren, Blake Morris (Whitney), Blair Morris (Rachel), Jason Bartholomew (Lindsey), Ryan Morris (Melissa), Derek Bartholomew (Allie), Landon Bartholomew. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, Bennett Morris, Maddox Bartholomew, Kate Bartholomew, Ethan Morris, Elliott Morris, Harper Morris, Alex Bartholomew and many other family members and friends. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers that gave him such love and care, Mollian Dare, Kim Parrish, Jeannette Hill and Selena Vanatta.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 27, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Hendersonville Memory Gardens and Funeral home at 353 E. Main St., Hendersonville, TN. Visitation Friday, August 28, 12 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Hendersonville Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 118 Anderson Lane, Hendersonville, TN with a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow immediately at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hendersonville Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
