Dee passed away peacefully after an extended battle with illness on the afternoon of Saturday, April 30, 2016.
Born in Oakland, Nebraska on November 26, 1939 to the late Arthur and Hazel Olson, Adena was one of four children. During her professional career Dee enjoyed book keeping for a jewelry store and her bible study fellowship group. Outside of the workplace Dee loved to spend time with her family and friends, going to bible study classes, cooking, and shopping.
Dee enjoyed cooking and hosting dinners for family and friends at her home. The first Thanksgiving after her mother's passing holds a particularly fond memory of the accidentally scorched potatoes, which none of the women in the kitchen touched once they reached the table. The women had a good laugh while their husbands enjoyed them none the wiser. Dee was, in fact, an excellent cook and will be remembered for her fabulous pot roast. Despite being diabetic, baking was another area in which she was talented. Her cookies were favorites of all who ate them. From time to time she would enjoy a frosty treat or two from the local Dairy Queen.
She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. When recalling Dee's legacy the words loving, caring, compassionate, dignified, intelligent, and sassy quickly come to mind. She was a woman of strong character who maintained a deep faith in the Lord. In fact, studying scripture with her bible study groups was one of her favorite things to do. She formed strong friendships with the people at her church and bonded closely with the Daughters of the King. Many of her friends from the Daughters of the King enjoyed coming together frequently on Monday nights to play bingo. They quickly earned the nickname "The Bingo Bunch."
She is preceded in death by her parents and her older brother. Dee leaves behind her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Jim Stahr; daughters, Terri (Jim) Aylward, Cindy (John) Miller; sons, Barry (Bonnie) Stahr, Scott Stahr; grandchildren, Kat, Heather, and Jason; great-grandson, Parker; several nieces and nephews; sister, Jean (Bill) Pierce; and brother, Billy Olson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church, 103 Country Club Dr., Hendersonville, TN 37075.
